“Unlike veneer furniture, a piece of solid wood furniture can be easily maintained and almost regain its new condition by sanding and surface treatment – over and over again – year after year.”
Sara Ullvetter Design loves using solid wood for our furniture – this vibrant, durable and uniquely beautiful natural material. No piece of furniture is the same, precisely because each individual tree leaves its very own imprint on every piece of furniture. And even after the tree has been felled and sawn into lumber, the natural material continues to be affected by the surrounding environment. That is why we choose to call wood a living material. Since wood reacts to moisture and temperature, it lives in step with the seasons. Idiosyncratic and expressive!
“Each tree is completely unique and therefore the surface of a piece of solid wood furniture will be more vibrant – it will never have the same polished appearance as veneer.”

The process of manufacturing solid wood furniture and veneer furniture is completely different. The properties of the respective materials also differ. Solid wood is made from solid wood planks – they can be glued together (glued) to obtain different dimensions. Veneer, on the other hand, is a thin layer of wood that is glued to a supporting structure, usually a chipboard or MDF.
Each tree is completely unique and therefore the surface of a piece of solid wood furniture will be more alive, it will never have the same smooth appearance as veneer. In addition, veneer is much more sensitive to marks and scratches, as these cannot be repaired. Unlike veneer furniture, a piece of solid wood furniture can be easily maintained and almost regain its new condition by sanding and surface treatment – over and over again – year after year. However, it should be added that there is nothing inherently wrong with veneered furniture. But if you want furniture that will withstand daily use, for many years to come, then solid wood is simply a better choice. At Sara Ullvetter Design, we therefore stick primarily to solid wood because it is about utility furniture that will withstand wear and tear. In a desire for authenticity and honesty, we also want the materials to really be what they appear to be.
